Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?
I am based out of Woodbridge, Virginia and I work exclusively within the greater Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area.
How long have you been doing this?
I have been shooting professionally for about 8 years. I am an insured and registered LLC in the state of Virginia.
Do you specialize in any specific area of photography?
I specialize in natural light digital portrait photography. That's my fancy, photographer way of saying I shoot outdoors, on-location. I shoot mostly families and weddings, with a bit of other life events mixed in as well - seniors, newborns, etc. My sessions include both smiling and posed images, as well as more candid and natural moments as well.
Can you recommend any locations for my sessions?
I have a growing list of favorite locations and will work with you to find one that fits the look you'd prefer in your photographs. I love to explore new locations if there is somewhere special or meaningful to you and your family! There may be a small travel fee for any locations that are scheduled 25 miles outside of the 22193 zip code, and clients are responsible for any entrance or photography fees at their chosen location.
How early should I book my session?
I accept a limited number of sessions each month and book 2-3 months out. It is important to book early in the fall as my schedule fills up quickly and I do not overload my calendar so that I can provide timely delivery to all my clients.
How do I go about booking a newborn session?
Babies arrive on their own schedule, so it can be difficult to select a specific date before they arrive. When booking, your due date is reserved on my calendar and then when baby arrives, we work together to find a date within the first few weeks to schedule your session.
What forms of payment do you accept? Do you require a deposit or retainer?
I accept major credit cards and arrangements to pay by cash and check may be made. A signed contract and your session fee, paid in full, is required in order to secure your preferred date. Both of these bookkeeping items can be done online from the comfort of your home.
What time are most sessions conducted?
Ideally, sessions are best scheduled in the late afternoon when the sun is beginning to set. However, we'll work around your schedule and what works best for you and often your little ones.
What am I supposed to wear?
Styling your session is the hardest part when booking a session, I swear! To help, I send along a complete prep guide to all of my clients and it's not unusual to get emails and texts from clients with pictures for a styling consultation. I'm happy to play both photographer and stylist. As Tim Gunn would say, we'll "make it work!"
How long does the typical session last?
On average, my portrait sessions run just a little over one hour. For sessions with small children, I'm often able to wrap up a session in thirty to forty-five minutes. Sometimes, that's as long as the little ones will last. Newborn sessions can run anywhere from one to three hours. This accounts for diaper changes, feedings, and other breaks for baby as needed. What happens after our session? How long will it take to receive my gallery?
After your session, my fun begins. I aim to present a gallery to my clients within 2-3 weeks from their session date. Why the wait? I hand edit each individual image to make sure it's perfection. If you're anything like me though, you're dying to see results ASAP. Teasers or blog previews often hit my Facebook wall  or Instagram just days after your session.
Do I get all of the files from my session?
Included in your session fee is one complimentary digital file. You may purchase additional files individually or in discounted bundles. Only the best images are edited and delivered to your gallery - the remaining files are not available for purchase or viewing. Hiring me is a demonstration of trust that I will choose the very best images of you and your family.
Do I buy prints from you? How do I do that? Is there a minimum purchase?
My products are sold a la carte to fit the budget and individual needs of each client; there is no minimum purchase required. Within your gallery you may share your images on social media or purchase prints, canvases, albums, and more. Should you purchase your digital files, I provide a print release and a lab recommendation upon file delivery.
