Looking Forward to 2014

Just a few more hours before the year 2013 comes to a close. Professionally, I met all of my goals and then some. I couldn't have asked for more this year without just plain being greedy. I was able to find that happy balance between work and family. I learned the power of the word "No", and knowing when I'd met my limit. It was liberating! I'm so grateful that as I've grown professionally so many of you have stuck with me and continued to trust me over and over again with your memories.

Now - enough of the mushy stuff. It's time to look forward to 2014. I've been jotting down my bucket list for the upcoming year and wanted to share it with all of you so I'm accountable next year!

2014 Business Goals

Become more awesome.
Self-explanatory.

Add another business trip to my "been there, done that" list.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it - being flown out to do a session made me feel LIKE A BOSS. It was amazing. I was a giddy little girl the entire trip. I'd love to see where my travels could take me again this coming year!

Photograph another birth.
Being a part of Leila's birth was an amazing experience. Sure, I've given birth twice, but seeing it from the opposite end of the table was amazing. The birth process can be such a blur and I am so grateful that I could provide such comprehensive coverage for mom and dad. I can't wait to do it again!

Do a session with the Washington DC Metro as our backdrop.
I just think it could be really cool. The escalators, the dramatic architecture, etc. Pictures on the train, waiting for the train... Interested?

Do a session in a full on blizzard.
Maybe not a blizzard, but snow on the ground and flakes falling would be pretty awesome, and it's something I've always wanted to capture. It's been on my bucket list, but now it's a "must do goal" for 2014!

Have a wedding published.
I am horrible about putting my work out there. Submitting to blogs, Facebook groups, Instagram accounts... I just don't do it. I'm probably doing myself and my clients a great disservice, so I'd love to have another one of my weddings published.

Have 5 additional sessions published.
I consider myself a portrait photographer, although I love weddings (the food, HELLO). Since families and newborns are where I tend to specialize, I should really focus on getting that work out there. I'm being gutsy with 5 sessions since I don't submit often, but perhaps I need a goal to finally get my butt into gear.

See my work in print.
Blogs are all the rage, but I'd love to see my work in print. This one will be one of my toughest goals to achieve. But, a goal is only a wish until it's written down. Here's to hoping. I've had my personal images published, but getting client work published will enable me to check off this bullet point!

Hit 2000 "Likes" on Facebook.
Facebook has been my greatest source of advertising since my business began. I work hard at social media and would love to see my numbers get up this coming year through more hard work, interacting with "fans" more and making connections through my existing clients.

Do full sessions of my kids on their birthdays.
As a pro, my personal work can really suffer. This is one of my greatest regrets since beginning my business. I often say, "Ugh, I can do the pictures myself." But... do I get around to doing them?? I want to make sure I have pictures to remember the milestones my kids are hitting as they grow older, so I'd love to make sure I do a comprehensive session with each of my kids on their birthdays.

Happy New Year!

  1. Nice goals - seems like a reasonable strech. All this time, though, I thought you had maxed out on awesomeness.

  2. Ugggg...I guess I can take "But what if Kelli doesn't want to photograph another birth?" Off of my list of reasons to not have another baby!
